Artist Statement

In my most recent work the viewer is drawn into a moment suspended in time. Although the outward appearance may seem anonymous, a child on a scooter, landscapes without people, a group standing on the shore of a beach, they are in fact moments we sometimes may not perceive, but have a psychological impact. I am constantly exploring the language of photography through my painting. Snapping a picture is instantaneous, yet turning it into a painting is a slow and meditative process. I am interested in the intimacy of a fleeting moment of time and how those intimate moments hold a more universal quality in their familiarity. I am constantly exploring the combinations of composition and pattern and how such combinations may be interpreted. For me, each work is made up of layers of memories witnessing the passage of an undefined length of time. Over time, children grow, landscapes may change, but I am most interested in what remains.
